Gram staining - Gram staining (or the Gram's method) is an empirical method of differentiating bacterial species into two large groups (Gram-positive and Gram-negative) based on the chemical and physical properties of their cell walls. Gram-negative - Gram-negative bacteria are those not stained dark blue or violet by Gram staining, in contrast to Gram-positive bacteria. On most Gram-stain preparations, Gram-negative organisms will be counterstained and appear red or pink.
