Acid-Base and Electrolyte Disorders: A Companion to Brenner & Rector's the Kidney by Thomas D. Dubose,

Acid-Base and Electrolyte Disorders: A Companion to Brenner & Rector's the Kidney by Thomas D. Dubose,
This companion to "Brenner and Rector's The Kidney" offers a concise, practical approach to acid-base and electrolyte disorders, emphasizing pathophysiology and its link to a logical diagnostic approach in treating these disorders. Unlike other traditional textbooks on the subject, ACID BASE AND ELECTROLYTE DISORDERS, focuses less on physiological and pathophysiological concepts and more on providing specific recommendations for therapy and patient care - resulting in an excellent clinical resource that is also an ideal core curriculum or exam review. Many of the topics in this book are not covered in any other resource, including acid-base and electrolyte disorders in the critical care setting. In addition, recent advances in fast-developing areas such as genetic and molecular biology are discussed in detail.

Acid-fast - Acid-fast bacteria are those that, when stained with certain compound, retain that stain despite treatment with an acidic solution. The most common staining technique used to identify them is the Ziehl-Neelsen stain, in which acid-fast bacteria are stained bright red, which stands out clearly against a blue background.

Mycobacterium phlei - Mycobacterium phlei is a Gram-positive, acid fast bacteria of the genus Mycobacterium. They are named this way because they contain mycolic acids, which is also the reason that simple staining or Gram staining does not give good results with this microbe.

Phosphotungstic acid haematoxylin - Phosphotungstic acid haematoxylin (PTAH) is a mix of haematoxylin with phosphotungstic acid, used in histology for staining. It stains some tissue in contrasting colors in a way similar to haematoxylin and eosin stain, as phosphotungstic acid binds to tissue proteins.
